Australian Opal
In these pages you will find an extensive range of polished opal gems, opal rough and opal jewellery to suit every taste, need and budget. Regardless of whether you are a professional lapidary or a hobbyist seeking quality cutting rough, we highly recommend that you create an account with us and sign up to receive our Newsletter. All new opal parcels are first mailed out to our members.
Our Opal Solid and Doublet gemstones are cut by us in our own workshop and it takes us 6 months to bring a stone from the rough to our store for sale. We monitor every stone for natural deterioration both before and after cutting and we will guarantee every opal we sell against crazing and defect. Follow this link to learn how to look after your opals and you will find they will last a lifetime.
Our Opal Rough is sold in five basic categories. King-stones, Rubs, Graded Parcels, Mine Run and Practice Rough. King stones are those pieces of rough that were selected and separated from the total material recovered because they are superior in colour, size and expected recovery. Rubs are pieces of rough that have been trimmed, faced and sometimes preformed. This is the safest way to buy rough because you can see exactly what you are getting, however they are sold at a premium price over general rough. Graded parcels are bulk roughs that have been cleaned and cleared of the low grade material. Mine Run is rough opal that has been mostly cleaned, however ungraded. Mine Run is a mix of gem opal through to potch; it is the cheapest way to buy opal and there is always the possibility of finding a gems worth tens or hundreds times more than the cost of the entire parcel - there is also the possibility that the parcel will yield very little, but we will guarantee that every parcel will yield a profit if cut correctly. Finally, Practice Rough parcels are sold as either potch (colourless opal) which is perfect to hone your cutting skills, or low grade mine run. We recommend that if you are new to opal cutting that you start with parcels of potch and when you are skilled at cutting cabochons, you progress to potch and colour which will allow you to become skilled at reading the opal for best colour. Then you are ready for the good stuff.
Our Opal Jewellery is manufactured by us in our own workshop and we fully guarantee every piece sold against defect and faulty workmanship. We offer a range of gents and ladies rings, earrings and pendants. We do not recommend that you purchase a ring to be resized because there is a high risk of damage to the opal. If your size is not available, then contact us and we can custom make your ring to your specifications.
