Gem Rough
Within these pages you will find an extensive range of gemstone rough for faceting, cabbing and carving, as well as low cost practice rough for you to either refine your skills or try new designs. All our roughs are fine quality with exceptional clarity and we specialise in finding those stones that are difficult to obtain such as Tsavorite Garnet and clean unheated Tanzanite roughs. Regardless of whether you are a professional lapidary or a hobbyist, if you are seeking quality cutting rough, we highly recommend that you create an account with us and sign up to receive our Newsletter. All new parcels received are first offered out to our members before the general public.
Our Premium Faceting Rough is all hand selected to produce finished stones of the highest quality. You will not receive a stone from us with “a clean facetable area”, all our premium rough is cobbed clean. We deal directly with the miners both in Australia and overseas and being miners ourselves, we know how to get the best deal on the roughs we procure. We spent several years negotiating our contracts in many countries including Brazil, Kenya, India, Nigeria, Tanzania and the United States to name a few and we pass these savings on to you.
Our Cabochon Rough is the equivalent of our competitors’ faceting grade material. Most of our cabbing rough is capable of producing clean stones if you are willing to sacrifice a little extra weight and will easily produce stones of SI – I clarity. You will produce cabochons of the highest quality from our material and we know you will return for more.
Our Carving Rough pieces are big and blocky and are well priced. Many of our carving roughs are also suitable for faceting and cabbing and they are of the highest quality.
Our Practice Rough is well priced and will exceed all your expectations in quality and clarity. These roughs are sold in bulk parcels and again will easily cut small clean stones at a return of about 10 to 20 percent or excellent commercial quality cabochons with a high yield. Our aim though is to price this material at a level that will encourage our members to try their creativity in a cost effective manner.
